Chesapeake Psychological Services
Substance Abuse
Treatment is offered to people with psychoactive substance use or abuse problems. We work with both the identified patient and family members/significant others in individual, conjoint and family psychotherapy. Co-dependency issues are always subject to exploration. People with a diagnosible substance abuse disorder almost always ask themselves, "Do I have a drinking or substance-use problem?"

Some key indicators to consider:

  • You have tried to stop using;
  • Others have talked to you about your use;
  • You drink or use alone;
  • Tolerance has developed: it takes more than it used to to get the same effect;
  • You have had a DUI (driving under influence) or similar charge;
  • You have had times, while using, you don't remember what happened;
  • You have trouble at work, for example, missing too many work days
  • Arguments with family members over your drinking or drug use;
  • You think the only way to have fun is to be high;
  • Minimizing use or hiding use from others;
  • Feeling guilty or lying about your use.

These are a few examples of signs of problematic substance use. For more information or help if you or someone you know may have a drinking or substance use problem, contact Dr. Morgen.
